Basic Organic Chemistry Infographics

Learning organic chemistry is interesting. There are rules guiding nomenclature of structures.

The tetravalency of carbon. Also, the catenation of carbon. Likewise, the formation of bonds with heteroatoms.

Organic chemistry is a branch of chemistry that is wide. However, we only concern with the basic aspect. The knowledge provided here can be built on.
The infographic below shows the different ways of presenting the formula of the organic compounds:

Also, this is how to work out the nomenclature of different organic compounds:

It is important to recognize the functional groups in organic compounds. These groups in individual compound determine their chemical properties. The presence of functional group affects the naming of the organic compounds.

Organic compounds exhibit isomerism by appearing differently in structure with the same molecular formula. The infographic explains several possibilities.

Cyclic organic compounds (aliphatic and aromatic) with heteroatoms are heterocycles. The presence an the number of heteroatoms gave each of the different properties.

Among many organic reactions are interconversions within different functional groups. The types of reactions are defined by the colour of each arrow as spelt out in the legends. The reactions are basically, oxidation, reduction, substitution, acylation etc.
